Before joining DL Media in 2022, Jon Solomon spent fifteen years writing about music for the Denver alt-weekly Westword, where he penned more than 500 features on Colorado and national touring acts, including jazz icons Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Carla Bley, Joe Lovano, Jim Hall, Bill Frisell, John Scofield and Marc Ribot. Prior to working for Westword, he assisted veteran music supervisor Tracy McNight on twelve films, including A Dirty ShameMurderball and End of the CenturyThe Story of the Ramones, and he also worked on seven soundtracks for Commotion Records, the New York-based label McNight started with former CBS Records CEO Walter Yetnikoff. He graduated with a BA in Journalism from San Jose State University and began writing about jazz while studying there. He’s a guitarist and tenor saxophonist who knows his way around jazz and free improvisation, and he has played in rock, punk and soul bands.
