DL Media Inc., a boutique public relations firm serving the music community since 1988, announces staff changes. For the first time since its inception, the company has an expanded physical presence with its team of publicists located across three time zones in New York, Los Angeles and Denver.
Senior Vice President of Artist Services and Publicity Maureen McFadden departs after 12 inspiring and productive years. “As a strategic visionary, Maureen will seamlessly apply her depth of industry knowledge to her next career chapter as she moves into artist management and consulting with her new company, Rua Artist Services. She is now managing trumpeter Sean Jones as well as pianist Ray Angry from The Roots, project managing for the Baltimore Jazz Collective, and working on a tour with Carnegie Hall’s NYO Jazz program as well as consulting for a number of artists and organizations. She will also continue to handle publicity for Jazz Is Dead within her own company. I look forward to watching her evolve and apply her personal passion and special people skills with the artists she admires and engages with,” states DL Media Inc. co-founder Don Lucoff. Maureen can now be reached at maureen@ruaartistservices.com.
Additionally, Account Manager Candelaria Alvarado, who joined the company at the onset of COVID-19 transitioning from Massachusetts based International Music Network, departs to re-join Tom Korkidis and his new venture, New Village Management. “During her brief tenure, Candelaria brought a highly evolved professionalism and broad skill set collaborating on clients such as ECM Records, Danilo Perez and Pasquale Grasso,” states Lucoff.
Denver native, Leah Concialdi, an eight-year public relations specialist and digital marketing veteran, joined the DLM team in March 2022 in the role of an account publicist based in the Los Angeles market. “In a short time frame Leah has made an immediate impact interacting with clients such as Yellowjackets, Black Nile and Alex Acuna,” says Lucoff. “Her marketing experience in a number of music genres including funk, global music, jam and soul perfectly complements our established roster of diverse clients. She is also a highly skilled and classically trained baritone saxophonist,” he adds.
Denver native Jon Solomon, who was a music journalist at Westword newspaper for 15 years, has joined our staff as Operations Manager, senior writer and editor, and ECM account manager. “I have had the pleasure of knowing Jon before I arrived in Denver several years ago. His wit and deep music knowledge and special affinity for jazz and as a long-standing local guitarist and saxophonist, will serve us well both locally in Denver and nationally,” states Lucoff.
Lastly, welcomed back into the fold is music industry pro Roberta Lawrence, who honed her PR skills working at DL Media prior to the firm’s relocation from New York City to Philadelphia in 1996. Lawrence administers the estate of her late husband, trumpeter-composer Mike Lawrence, and produced his posthumous recording, Nightwind, featuring Herbie Hancock, Bob James and Michael Brecker. Before rejoining DL Media in May, she helmed her boutique PR firm, Soundcheck PR, representing composers, music publishers, musicians, sound designers, recording studios, post production facilities, arts organizations and professional organizations, including the Chicago Federation of Musicians. A lifelong New Yorker, Lawrence grew up steeped in the vibrant jazz culture that is unique to New York City.
“I am deeply moved that Roberta has come back to DL Media,” says Lucoff. “The timing was great! After our hiatus, we’ve come full circle and I look forward to her engaging with clients nationally, and also being on the ground in New York.”
Lucoff says it’s been a grand adventure having the opportunity to engage, collaborate and mentor many talented people over the years including JR Rich, Monifa Carson Brown, Matt Merewitz, Diana Nazareth, Sonia Crocker, Jordy Freed, Matt Jurasek, Ron Bock, Amy Miller, and Sophie Darve, among many others. “And special recognition to my wife, Maria Clemencia-Lucoff who co-founded the company in 1988 and tirelessly worked in all aspects of operations in the fledgling company. After 34 years we are far from finished and would not be here without the talented staff and the high caliber artists, labels, festivals and organizations we have worked with and continue to serve,” concludes Lucoff.
