 Headline the JAS Aspen Snowmass Experience

The 2014 JAS Aspen Snowmass Experience, held Labor Day weekend, will bring new artists, new ticket options and a new name to Snowmass Town Park Aug. 29-31, featuring a star-studded blend of both timeless and timely Artists. The event kicks-off on Friday, August 29th with reggae superstar Ziggy Marley followed by 2013 Grammy Award winners for Best New Artist, Fun. For Friday night JAS is implementing a new “Family Friendly Friday” offer which will allow parents to purchase discounted $10 tickets in advance for kids 12 and under. A newly expanded Kids Corner in the JAS Village will provide fun activities for the kids throughout the night and weekend.


On Saturday, August 30th one of the most legendary bands of the 20th Century Earth, Wind & Fire will bring their signature sound to Snowmass, opening for Colorado Springs natives, OneRepublic. Together since 2003 OneRepublic is one of the hottest bands in the world today, with a current tour selling out stadiums in France, Europe, Australia and arenas across the US. The weekend concludes on Sunday, August 31st with superstar country/pop singer Carrie Underwood, the 2005 winner of American Idol who has since become the franchise’s most successful alumni with more than 15 million albums sold worldwide, 18 #1 singles, six Grammys and countless other accolades. Additional artists will be announced shortly.


A limited number of discounted Early Bird tickets at just $59 for Friday and $69 for Sat & Sun or $170 for a 3-Day Pass, will be available while supplies last starting at 9am mst on Friday, March 14.  A second “MidWay” tier of pricing at $65 for Friday and $75 for Sat & Sun or $180 for a 3-Day Pass, will be released upon completion of the Early Bird sales, with a third “Last Chance” tier of pricing at $75 for Friday and $85 on Sat & Sun or $190 for a 3-Day Pass to follow.   Three day passes will include one general admission wristband good for entrance into all performance. All prices area subject to additional service charges.


In addition to the above pricing, JAS is incorporating two new options for ticket buyers. The new JAS Deck, which will be located on the main event field, will include a private tent and elevated platform where attendees will enjoy complimentary beer and wine, specialty cocktails, snacks, grille fare and private restrooms. JAS Deck prices will be $250/day or $650 for the full weekend.


Ticket buyers at every price point will have an opportunity to add an additional $25 to their purchase which will go towards JAS Music Education Programming. With this donation individuals will become of member of the JAS Club, and will receive a special t-shirt prior to the event. Wearing the tee to the concerts will show support of music education and qualify the wearer to win an upgrade to VIP tickets on the day of the performance.

NO TARP POLICY: (New) Due to safety concerns based on extensive feedback from surveys of recent JAS Labor Day weekend attendees, JAS will be implementing a new NO TARP POLICY at this year’s event. Attendees will be allowed to bring in blankets (maximum size 40″x60″) and may still bring low back lawn chairs (maximum of 6″ in height off the ground). This new policy has become a current industry standard, adopted by such notable venues as Red Rocks in Denver and events like the ACL Festival and Lollapalooza.


As JAS begins planning its highly anticipated 25th Anniversary Season in 2015, an important branding transformation is well underway. The very definition of who JAS is and what it offers has evolved, and JAS believes it would be better summed up with the word “Experience” as opposed to its longtime moniker “Festival.” The meaning of the word Festival has changed dramatically in the last ten years with the explosion of enormous multi-stage, multi-genre gatherings of 50,000 people or more per day. JAS seeks to distance their event in the marketplace from these festivals which truly cannot realistically be compared. The experience of attending the JAS Labor Day event, in its spectacular setting, with only one main stage, is dramatically different from any of the major music festivals in operation today. Additionally, the JAS Patron (VIP) experience, which weds the experience of live gourmet cooking stations and cuisines, premium beverages and close proximity to the stage, is unlike that of any other major music festivals’ VIP offerings. Fun. has not stopped living up to its name since their 2009 debut, Aim & Ignite. A year after the debut they were opening for Paramore on their headlining tour and performing at Coachella along along with The Strokes and Jay Z. 

With a trail of accolades behind them, fun. knew they had to step up their game in an unexpected way when it came to producing their second record, Some Nights. The album garnered them Grammys, “Best New Artist” and “Song of the Year” for “We Are Young,” and was named one of the top albums of the year by Rolling Stone, SPIN, NPR, and Entertainment Weekly, who also named fun. one of their “Entertainers of The Year.”


Ziggy Marley

Ziggy Marley was born on October 17, 1968 in Trenchtown, Jamaica. The eldest son of Bob and Rita Marley, Ziggy began his musical career playing with his father and his siblings Sharon, Cedella and Stephen on “Children Playing in Streets” in 1979. The siblings became known as Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers, and released their debut album, “Play the Game Right” on EMI Records in 1985. While with EMI, the Melody Makers released “Hey World” in 1986, and then “The Time Has Come: The Best of Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers” in 1988. In 1988 the band moved to Virgin Records and recorded “Conscious Party” which won them their first Grammy. “Conscious Party” was produced by Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth, and included the hit songs “Tomorrow People” and “Tumblin’ Down.”



In creating their third full-length album, OneRepublic traveled to Paris, Greece, London, New York, Seattle, and Vancouver to write, record, and immerse themselves in elevating and expanding their already-sweeping sound. Working at lead singer/songwriter/keyboardist and GRAMMY winner Ryan Tedder’s own Patriot Studios in Denver, OneRepublic (whose 2007 smash “Apologize” ranks in the top 50 on the Billboard Hot 100’s All-Time Top Songs list) redefined their approach to rhythm and infused their high-powered rock-pop hybrid with elements of electronic music, gospel, blues, and folk. A bold and boundary pushing follow-up to 20019’s Walking Up, the resulting Native offers up a surge of stadium-sized rock that’s fiercely beat-driven yet ethereal and intimate.

Freshness is infinitely essential to OneRepublic, who foremost aspired to make Native a “very modern record, a snapshot of life in 2013,” according to Tedder. “It’s so important to us that every album be an evolution, where we make these huge lateral movements with our sound and then from there write a bunch of great songs,” he continues. “It’s definitely a mother of a process, but it’s really the only way for us.”


Earth, Wind & Fire

During the 1970s, a new brand of pop music was born – one that was steeped in African and African-American styles – particularly jazz and R&B but appealed to a broader cross-section of the listening public. As founder and leader of the band Earth, Wind & Fire, Maurice White not only embraced but also helped bring about this evolution of pop, which bridged the gap that has often separated the musical tastes of black and white America. It certainly was successful, as EWF combined high-caliber musicianship, wide-ranging musical genre eclecticism, and ’70s multicultural spiritualism. “I wanted to do something that hadn’t been done before,” Maurice explains. “Although we were basically jazz musicians, we played soul, funk, gospel, blues, jazz, rock and dance music…which somehow ended up becoming pop. We were coming out of a decade of experimentation, mind expansion and cosmic awareness. I wanted our music to convey messages of universal love and harmony without force-feeding listeners’ spiritual content.”

One of the most successful and critically acclaimed bands of the twentieth century, EWF is known for the dynamic sound of their horn section and their energetic and elaborate stage shows. 


Carrie Underwood

With more than 15 million albums sold worldwide, 18 #1 singles, with seven as co-writes, six Grammys, and countless other accolades — all achieved with four albums in less than eight years — some artists might feel as though they’d earned the right to rest on their laurels, but not Carrie Underwood. Fueled by a restless creative spirit, good-natured competitive streak and abundance of God-given talent, Carrie unleashed her most ambitious project yet in her latest release Blown Away.   

Her ability to be unique yet accessible has been crucial to Carrie’s career from the beginning. She became America’s sweetheart in 2005 when she won the fourth season of American Idol, a vehicle that transformed her from a shy Oklahoma girl with a great voice to a budding superstar. Since then she’s become the popular franchise’s most successful alumni. 

In a few short years, Carrie has seen the power music has to change lives – to incite dialog, to instill hope, and to simply entertain. She’s aware of the platform she’s been given. She respects it and appreciates every moment.
